Media Rooms of the Future.
2017-2018 Scholarship from Lighthouse Technologies
This is a recurring annual scholarship.
We are currently accepting scholarship applications for the 2018 award.
Lighthouse Technologies is running a recurring scholarship essay contest for students between the ages of 17-30.
This year’s scholarship topic is:
Media Rooms of the Future: What will be installed in media rooms in the future?
The deadline to submit is April 20, 2018.

Here are the details:
Technology is rapidly advancing.
We can all see this from the little device we carry around with us, to the massive amounts of data and information available in our every day lives.
This year, we want you to put your futuristic thinking cap on.
Think about, and write about, what the media rooms of the future will look like.
This can be in offices or homes, or anywhere you think a media room may exist in the future.
Will a media room be a place where you put on your Occulus Rift and travel inside the movie?
Can “movies” be more like video games, where you have an adventure different from others watching the movie with you?
Should media rooms feature holograms that you can interact with?
We’re looking for the most creative and original ideas.
You can travel as far into the future as you like.
However, we think we’re going to find it to be the most tangible and interesting if you can travel into YOUR home of the future.
So if you’re struggling to know when the future is, then pick a time… say 10-20 years from now, and tell us what you would like to see in YOUR home or office media room.
We’d like to hear what you have to say!
How do I apply?
Write a 500-2000 word essay telling us the story of what your “media room of the future” looks like.
Things to consider might include:
- What gear is in the room?
(This can be anything – including things not yet invented.) - What does it feel like to be in the room?
- Can you physically interact with the media playing?
- Obviously 8-tracks and records and even DVDs are becoming obsolete, so in the future, how does the media get stored and delivered?

Lighthouse Technologies’ Technology Scholarship
Who is eligible?
- Students who like technology and/or like looking into the future.
- Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA.
- Must be currently attending or planning to attend an accredited college or university during the fall of 2018 forward.
- For applicants under 18, you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian.
- You must be in good academic standing with your current educational institution.
What’s the award?
One scholarship award of $1000 will be awarded.
This scholarship can be used toward tuition or books.
How will the award be paid out?
- We will mail a check for $1000 directly to the financial aid department.
- This will be sent to the University you’re attending.
- They will apply it to your financial aid account.
How will the winner be decided?
We are looking for the most creative and original ideas for what will happen in the media room of the future. Remember, we work in technology all day long, and we see all kinds of interesting and creative ideas.
But we love seeing new ways of looking at the rooms we spend most of our lives in.
Reading your essay, we want to have an experience of saying something like “Well, that’s just nifty,” and/or “Never thought about it like that before.” If your essay makes us say things like that, you have a strong likelihood of being awarded this scholarship.
